Leads
How to add leads to Zylar sequences, which fields a lead has, how duplicates and blocklisted addresses are skipped, lead statuses, verification and enrichment.
A lead is a contact you add to a sequence. Each lead has an email address, optional fields you can use for personalization, and a status that tracks where they are in the sequence. This page covers adding leads, lead fields, what Zylar skips, lead statuses and the verification and enrichment credits included with your plan.
Adding leads
You add leads to a specific sequence. You can:
- Upload them as a CSV. Any CSV column can be used as a personalization variable in your copy.
- Add them through the API with
POST /leads, up to 1,000 leads per request.
curl -X POST https://api.zylar.io/v1/leads \
-H "Authorization: Bearer zy_live_..." \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"sequence_id": "sq_q4_agencies",
"leads": [
{ "email": "dana@example.com", "first_name": "Dana", "company": "Example Co" }
]
}'
The response tells you how many leads were added and which were skipped:
{ "added": 1, "skipped": [] }
See API reference: Leads.
Lead fields
| Field | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|
email | Yes | The address Zylar sends to. |
first_name | No | |
last_name | No | |
company | No | |
| Custom fields | No | Any additional fields you include. |
Use fields as variables in your sequence copy, with fallbacks for leads where a field is empty. See Sequences.
Duplicates and blocklisted addresses
When you add leads, Zylar skips duplicates and blocklisted addresses and reports them back to you. This keeps the same address from being added twice and keeps blocked addresses out of your sends. Through the API, skipped leads are listed in the skipped array of the response.
Bounces are handled automatically too: when an address bounces, Zylar removes it from every sequence.
Lead statuses
Each lead has one of these statuses:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
active | In a sequence and receiving steps. |
replied | Replied to the sequence. |
interested | Replied with interest. |
bounced | The address bounced. |
unsubscribed | Opted out. |
completed | Finished all steps of the sequence. |
Filter by status with the API, for example to export every interested lead:
curl "https://api.zylar.io/v1/leads?status=interested&limit=25" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer zy_live_..."
Removing a lead
Removing a lead takes them out of all sequences. Their reply history is kept. Through the API, use DELETE /leads/{id}.
Verification with EmailShield
Verifying addresses before you send keeps your bounce rate down, and bounces are one of the fastest ways to damage a domain's reputation. Every plan includes verification credits through EmailShield:
| Plan | Verification credits |
|---|---|
| Growth | 5,000 |
| Scale | 15,000 |
| Agency | 30,000 |
| Enterprise | Custom |
Enrichment with LeadSonar
Enrichment fills in data about your leads that you can use for targeting and personalization. Every plan includes enrichment credits through LeadSonar:
| Plan | Enrichment credits |
|---|---|
| Growth | 1,000 |
| Scale | 2,500 |
| Agency | 7,500 |
| Enterprise | Custom |
